Game Informer‘s gearing up for a full month of Wii U coverage with a cover story preview: October’s going to focus on New Super Mario Bros. U. The new issue will feature an interview with longtime series heads Shigeru Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuka, a long Wii U launch prep piece, and a 10-page cover story dedicated to everything New Super Mario Bros. U.
They’ve released a teaser site for their Wii U coverage that reveals some returning Mario franchise features. Hop inside to take a look and get a sneak peek at their month of online Wii U goodies.
You can see a few returning power-ups, level features, and so on in the image above. Ice Mario appears twice in the set of images on the right. The flame obstacles that first appeared in Super Mario Bros. 3‘s airships also show up in another of the right-hand screens. The violet crystalline rotating surfaces from underground levels in New Super Mario Bros. Wii and the chain-link fencing from various castles across the franchise are also due to appear.
We can’t spot much in the way of new content in these shots, however – which is somewhat worrisome for those hoping for a fresh new Mario that breaks the mold more than its recent predecessors have.
